I have a strange affliction. I walk around all day with a narrator rabbiting on in my head.

I like the pretty leaves

I basically ‘write’ what I see as I am seeing it. Does that make sense? For example, perhaps I notice a particularly striking pile of leaves (believe me, it happens more than you’d care to think) – instead of thinking “pretty leaves” and walking on I compose a short description in my mind about the “golden tree petals scattered wantonly across the urban scape” or something equally pretentious (and occasionally beautiful). Generally I really like my constant narration, it keeps me entertained and helps me to really connect with the world around me, but it would be nice to give it a rest every now and then. I wish I had a “special features” menu on the DVD of my life, where I could opt out of the director’s commentary. (Side note: actually, remote controlling life could come in handy in other areas too… then again Adam Sandler has already warned us about the dangers of memory surfing.)

Does anyone else have this constant narrator keeping them company?
